Marcel Desailly Pro Football PS1 Review

Marcel Desailly Pro Football PS1 title
Marcel Desailly pro football would be a soccer game released for the PlayStation early into the Millennium in the year 2000 and this game would see a release on a number of different consoles even on mobile in 2003 and 2004 on the likes of the Nokia Ngage also.

And the game would receive quite favorable reviews in terms of its playability and characteristics across the board that gave you access to a number of different European club and national teams with various different modes such as various tournaments like World Cup and even other European championships that you can get involved with all while utilizing various character abilities and stats.

The gameplay takes a lot of unique elements and inspiration from Iconic games such as ISS Pro and even the FIFA Series in terms of how it plays and at its time it probably was considered to be among some of the best soccer games seen on the PlayStation as the game being released in the early to mid 2000s the PlayStation at that point had become a lot more mature in terms of how games were being developed and presented.

Developers were starting to figure out and had become familiar with the hardware to a point that they could push the game's boundaries to their limits in terms of the development cycles and what they could create and for what the game offers it plays really well in terms of what is presented it has a good array of features it has some nice graphics and some good characteristics overall.

But in general how does it feel like overall when you are playing it?

It does have a mixed element to it in my own opinion where it does feel like as if in some ways it plays like FIFA but in other ways it tries to be a little bit like the ISS games but I can't help but feel that there's elements of the game to me that feels like it's more play that plays more like the old actua soccer games in terms of how the players move around the pitch.

As even though you run with the ball you can never really gain any sort of speed or really sprint as such when you're actually holding on to the ball which would have been seen in the old actua soccer games and at any point even when you are running with the ball you can use they lose it and it just feels like when you're running it just feels like you're playing an actua soccer game or a more updated actual soccer game that's for me that's what it feels like.

Now I know that not everybody will see it like that or even feel anywhere near close to that but for my own experience that's how it felt to me but is that really a bad thing?

In a lot of ways no because it has some really unique characteristics although I will admit for me personally I don't think it feels as wild fleshed out and as well put together when you consider it with likes of the ISS Pro Evolution series or even the later FIFA series because again they were the two dominant franchises in soccer games not just on the PlayStation but pretty much across the board on any type of console at the time.

But this game had a lot of unique elements to it that was a step up compared to other types of soccer games seen on the PlayStation at the time.

Although I will admit from the offset it's not as beginner friendly compared to many other soccer games that you would play, it's definitely a lot more difficult for beginners to figure out what to do but at the same time does have enough features that makes that entry point a wee bit easier the more you put into it and the more that you actually play it.

It just takes a bit of time to get used to the whole dynamic ofthe play and feel of the game but it is definitely something that should be worth trying out and the fact is that it was a later entry on the PlayStation and the fact is it was a bit more modernized at that time definitely deserves a look in all respects to it.

It was very different but it definitely offered something different in terms of what was already out there but by this stage of the PlayStation's life cycle not only did you have a lot of old classic soccer games between like even lower quality entries and arcade style games but you had a multitude of FIFA games and even Iss pro games so you had a plethora of soccer games to choose from and the reality is if you played one in some cases you've probably played them all as I like to say because there was that many of them and sometimes it would be hard to choose from. Now back in the early days of the PlayStation that wouldn't have really been considered a thing because at the time we were getting used to the elements of 3D gaming and so to get to play any type of soccer game or anything in that respect at that time was incredible.

But by this stage when these games started to come out at this point the PlayStation 2 had already arrived which took things to a whole new level so by then gamers had gotten used to all these aesthetics so for games to really stand out it really had to provide something special because if it didn't it really would have just been sidetracked or just left pretty much out there to be left non-existent.

Nobody'd even recognize it or even pick it up which is what would have happened to many of these games especially after the year 2000, 2001, 2002 towards the latter end of the PlayStation. Although the PlayStation would stick around for another three years with the final production been ending in 2005 which was an incredible run for such an iconic console but at the same time many of its games that were still being released on the console because of the PowerHouse that was the PlayStation 2.

A lot of games and series that were starting on the original console at that time would have been long forgotten and left overlooked pretty much before they'd even started which was a pity but that unfortunately that's just the reality of a lot of these ideas. Its kind of the same even with new consoles now in some cases it is in some cases it isn't because with modern consoles know you can play with backwards compatibility where you can play games on older consoles on the newer console so at least it keeps the door open for that to happen but where's it all the consoles probably not so much even though the PlayStation 2 during this early phases did allow you for playing of older PS1 console games but even at that most people primarily would have literally just ended up just playing PS2 games more so than PS1 games, they would quickly moved on by that point.

But that still doesn't take away from the presence that the PS1 had and that it goes down as one of the best consoles of all time and it's my personal favourite console of all time as even regardless of all of this it was still able to produce games like this which is an incredible feat in its own right and it's definitely a console that is respected and should be respected for what it did provide us over the years.
