Screamer Rally PS1 Prototype Demo Review

Screamer Rally PS1 Prototype Demo title
Screamer Rally is an unreleased prototype build that was originally in development for the PlayStation that was due to be released somewhere around 1997, 1998 for the ps1 but was cancelled during the development phase or process.

And this game would have been a port of the very popular screamer rally game that was released on the pc in 1997 as the original screamer rally is a very popular arcade racing game that takes a lot of influence from old-school rally games likes of Sega Rally and other old-school arcade classics.

So the PlayStation development version was being built for a while before its demise but a version of the game or a prototype build of the game was leaked eventually online that you can now play.

Now it's relatively unfinished you can only play as one track you have only access to one car.

There are no menus as such in the game and there are no variations really in the laps it's just one continuous lap which you can play over and over and over again.

There are a few variations of sound effects but not that many but you do have the sound effects of the engine of the car as you're racing along and the gameplay itself is very very fast-paced and quite frantic.

The controls of the car can be quite sensitive and a little bit on the clunky side but it is more to make up for it due to the overall sense of speed in the game as it is very very fast.

So it's really difficult to say exactly when this game was pretty much cancelled but from this development build I would say that this game was cancelled very early on in its development process as from the build that's available there is only one track although it's relatively unfinished, it is playable but it is very unfinished.

It plays decent enough for what it is, the track itself isn't overly long but you do have different types of terrain that you race on anything from tarmac roads and eventually, you kind of go into off-road portions where you're going on to gravel and dirt type of environments so it does change it up as you're playing and you do have different viewpoints where you can view behind the car and even like a first-person like a bonnet view of the car which is pretty cool so it does allow you to play the game from different perspectives.

But as there are no laps in the game you can also just turn around at any point and completely race the car around the track in reverse if you want to have a bit more fun with it that way.

But from what the presentation shows in the game the graphics were okay for the most part and they were quite vibrant and somewhat colourful although there is a lot of like screen tear and even a lot of pop-ups which you can see in the environment.

It gets very foggy but it pops up literally when you're about to appear in a certain section, parts of the level will literally just pop up right in front of you so that you can see for yourself that it was still relatively unfinished but it's still a good way to experience it and it is a cool idea to get the chance to play what a game that could have been and to see what could have been had it been released and if a version of this game had been released for the PlayStation it would have been quite fun to play.

Now it obviously would have needed to be ironed out, a lot of the bugs and flaws would have needed to have been addressed but I genuinely think that it would have been a really cool title to play on the PlayStation and it would have been something very very different.

But at least you can get to play this prototype build of it if you do go looking online you'll be able to find versions of it that are playable that you'll be able to play on your emulators.

But I'd love to know your thoughts on this prototype build of screamer rally that was in development for the ps1 and what are your thoughts on it did you even know that this prototype or even this game was even being developed for the system back in the day and if so what are your thoughts in it?
