Tyco R C - Assault with a Battery PS1 Review

Tyco RC Assault with a Battery is a fun cartoony style racing game that was released for the PlayStation in 2000 and the game took the inspiration and was branded by the Tyco RC toys range of radio controlled cars and the game was also released in North America and was later released in Japan.

The game allows you to play as a selection of radio-controlled cars and the game also takes much influence for many kart style racers that you would be familiar with on not just the PlayStation but other gaming platforms such as the Nintendo 64 and other types of consoles at the time.

As while you're racing you can pick up power-ups because the game has a very cartoony influence and style and it plays and feels very like your typical kart racer such as Mario Kart, crash team racing and all of the popular type of kart racers that would have been seen on different consoles that with the use of power ups allow you to take advantage of your opponents by shooting them with various projectiles or even using speed boosts to get ahead of the pack while you also have to try and avoid many different obstacles and hurdles that will hamper your progress through each race and you also have to contend with the aggressive computer AI as well because this game can be difficult.

As even though it is fun to play and it does have some unique and quirky level designs and the the tracks themselves are quite short but the AI is the game's main achilles heel because you never get that far away from your opponents no matter how good of a race that you have.

They'll always be clipping at your heels the whole time and more often than that we'll try to overtake if at any chance possible and this would result in the game receiving mixed to average reviews because of some of these features but the game was praised for its pick up and play entertainment feature that if you want something for a quick blast that you will have the laugh with it for a quick short period of time.

The game also gives you access to multiplayer mode as well so that you can play with some of your mates so you can play it through various campaigns and even the challenges that are in the game as well that you can go head to head with your friends which again you would see in many other types of kart racer style games that were also been released on the PlayStation.

Now for what it offers the game is fun, it is challenging yes the ai can be a bit of a nuisance at times but once you get familiar with the tracks a lot of it is down to skill but at the same time most of it is down to luck as well to determine whether you're going to win races or not.

But especially when you're starting off once you get familiar with the game the first few rounds of tracks won't cause you too much of an issue but later into the game it definitely will get more difficult because some of the later tracks especially when you're in the types of jungle style levels, you have a lot more jumps and hurdles to overcome so there's a lot more issues and things that can happen that can literally slow you down and if the AI opponents get ahead of you it'd be pretty much game over.

So it's just one of those games that you just have to have a bit of patience with it if you will really.

Now even myself spending time playing it I really like the graphical style of it and it does reflect the type of vibe that is going for where it focuses on like toys and remote control cars and just get a vibe that you would have had from playing with those type of toys when you were kids.

So it does try to do that and it does do it quite well and the time I spent playing with it, I really do like the graphics and the quirky style of what it's trying to do.

I just love that old school kind of like cartoony style of graphics that you've seen in games at that time like they weren't overly detailed but they had enough charm and character about them that made them very appealing.

And once you got into it and got used to the controls again a lot of the vehicles they would have different elements, some of them would handle better than others but it really just depends on your own preferences and you just have to take time to try and figure them out and to get used to them.

It is a fairly decent game for what it does offer but it's just that it can be difficult at times and due to the ai is the biggest trouble really aside from hurdles that you have to avoid and traps that you will cross when you're racing through levels but that's just typical of these kart racer games they always use that rubber band and AI tactic to you always make sure that you're always kept on your toes.

Now I can see the idea behind it but it just gets repetitive after a while because it's relentless, it never stops and it's always the same with all these type of games.

Any type of these kart racer games I've ever played over the years I've always used these tactics even way back to the original Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo which I absolutely love that game it's one of my favorite racing games of all time and that had it as well but at least with that game depending on skill if you were good at the game you had a chance to win it but a lot of it all just boiled down to that you could get through and have a clean run on laps without getting destroyed or squished by an object or something like that and pretty much the same goes for with this game as well.

But it is a decent experience but it's more suited to a short-term play through rather than playing for hours on end but you would have a better excuse to play it which your mates as that is where you will get the most fun out of it in all respects.

And I would love to know your thoughts on Tyco RC Assault with a Battery and what did you think of this game overall.
